Deanna Galletto
was born in Sarzana, Liguria, Italia.
She has a wide and various
artistic experience mostly gained in Milan and in Rome. She started her
artistic schooling at the Liceo artistico - Art High School - and
she had a further specialisation in engraving attending the Raffaello
Academy in Urbino. Deanna Galletto’s, first work experience was in
avant-garde theatre at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan and then in
scenography and costume design at the Teatro Pretesto in Rome. In
Milan, She also worked for the recording studio Produttori Associati
designing LP covers, one of which was for Fabrizio De Andre's LP Non al
denaro non all' amore nè al cielo. Between 1973 and 1993 she
has taught Drawing and History of Art in Public Schools and also in
regional courses organized for teachers and cultural operators.
She made many videos about
“health and the environment”.
Her video Conosci Senago?
was exhibited at the La
Biennale exhibition in Venice in 1977. In the 1980’s she began a
fruitful working relationship with Legambiente - Environmental
League - in Rome. She produced the graphic work for their video Le
risorse dell’ambiente with text by Laura Conti. Deanna Galletto
also worked using photography, deepening the theme of the relationships
between symbol, expression and material. In 1996 she was invited by
Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen and she worked in Johann Gottfried
Schadow's historical Atelier in Berlin – Mitte, where she
realized
the project Berliner Mauern. This work is made up of twelve macro
photos Polaroid, twelve paintings, twelve engravings, and It was exhibited
in the Berliner Rathaus in 1997. In the same period, the exhibition
Remembering Pier Paolo Pasolini was presented at the Italian Institute
of Culture in Berlin. In 2000 Deanna Galletto took part in the project
Ligustica Linea – Tribute to Lalla Romano. Her work E’ donna is
inspired by one of Romano’s poems and was selected for the group
exhibition (Tribute to Lalla Romano) organized at San Giorgio Castle in La
Spezia during summer 2001.
