I would like to express and emphasize with this work the assonances and
dissonances, the convergences and divergences, the connections and conflicts
of the different idioms that are intertwined, combined and corrupted, giving
substance to the sounds perceived in Sydney’s streets. This city is able
to fully express a multicultural, multiethnic and multilinguistic reality.
Imprint writings transfigured into /
signs / de / signs / through graphic-pictorial language. Imprint
writings that surpass the specific connotations in their own language and
alphabet, while assuming other values specifically related to visual
communications, and therefore, perceived through other diversified canons of
reading. The word poetry is so written
in different alphabets and ideographic languages: Korean, Chinese Japanese,
Chinese, Hindi, Tamil, Thai, Singhalese, Russian, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew,
Latin. These words are blown up considerably on acetate sheets and painted
on both sides with acrylic. On the reading side the word is painted in
black, while on the other side different colours are used from the chromatic
scale according to the colour’s theory of Goethe. The colours symbolically
correspond to the different geographic areas associated with the chosen
alphabets. Installation: paintings on
transparent acetate mounted on a thin strip on upper and lower sides, hung
from the ceiling, distant 75 cm. from the superior and inferior horizontal
planes. The works are placed also at a distance of 75 cm. from each other,
to allow both a singular vision and the simultaneous reading of all the
paintings due to the transparent mounting. This distance between the
paintings allows the viewers to enter and walk through the work.
